HISTORY

Based on the OVES’s handout, Our Village Education School (OVES) is a private education-focused community school committed to alleviating poverty, ignorance and hardship through creating equal access to education for the underprivileged in the community. It was established in 2012 and run by a group of students from Kukrun Village in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. We are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing access to education to the poorest and most vulnerable children in the communities.

From 2012, OVES had been processing one class teaching and learning in Koukrun village, Mukben Commune, Pouk District and Siem Reap Province until 2013. In this location, OVES had provided General knowledge and English based education to more than a hundred students in the village. From 2013 until 2015, OVES had moved its location to Kouk Phnov Village, Sasarsdom Commune, Pouk District and Siem Reap Province  with 5 classes, about 3 kilometers from the previous location. In this location, OVES had provided English based education to more 2 hundred students who were from 18 villages in the area.

At the end of 2015, the owner of OVES met financial crisis because he borrowed the money from the Community Saving “Village Bank”  with his own money to build the school in which he had spent on building walls = 800$, tables = 1250$, furniture=500$, toilet= 300$, and operation cost =$1000.00, so the total was $3900.00. In that time, the owner had only $500. However, we got support from our students, $1 to $2 per month, but 30% of our students were provided scholarship –free of charge education. Moreover, he needed to sell all tables to pay the Community Saving back.
